The Unseen Guest

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57

As you travel to be with family or prepare your home to host dinner, keep in mind that the holidays bring with them their very own brand of stress.  It is so easy to lash out at family and loved ones because we feel secure in their love for us.  However, that doesn’t mean that our hurtful words and actions are any less painful or destructive.  It’s the perfect time for the enemy to get his ugly foot in the door and wreak havoc.

Tempers will flare, patience will be tested and the kids are always gonna be a tad bit too loud. All I can say is…count it all joy!!  When you feel that destructive undercurrent trying to ooze itself into your activities and ruin your family get together simply surrender yourself to Jesus and rebuke the enemy. He will have to flee…VICTORY!! Keep Jesus the center of your world and give thanks to him for every single thing.
Be safe if your travels.  Give yourself some extra time to unwind.  Forget about expectations of others and do your best as if Jesus were coming for dinner.  He will be there.

You know…Mamaw used to have a sign that she hung up in her kitchen.  It read:

Christ is the Head of this house; the Unseen Guest at every meal;

the Silent  Listener to every conversation.

These are words I live by…I wish all of you a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving.

love and prayers.

  1. Just a thought: how can Christ be a guest if he is the head of the house? It’s a lovely religious quotation but unbiblical. We are in his house and he makes us completely at home. I can be totally myself in his presence.

    • Thanks for your comment. I do believe Christ is the head of the house. I think the focus of the next verse is that He is UNSEEN. AND THE NEXT VERSE THE FOCUS IS THAT HE is SILENT. In my life, Christ is not silent at all. He guides me everyday. It is simply to say that he is ever present in my home. He is both guest because he observes all that goes on in my home and Head of my home because we surrender all to him.

      If He can be Father, Spirit and Son, He can be guest and head of my home. He is also healer and warrior, ruler and servant….

      Thanks for reading! God bless
